Jill Scott was born (April 4, 1972) and raised in North Philadelphia and began her career as a performance poet. She was discovered by Amir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots. Questlove invited her to join the band in the studios. The collaboration resulted in the song “You Got Me”. She currently resides in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, a Philadelphia suburb.
